Project Description: The Arts Café Springville project is the rehabilitation of an Italianate two story masonry building in the center of Springville’s downtown which is a contributing building in the East Main- Mechanic Historic District. The project began with the building’s acquisition in 2012. The roof and interior of the building were completely collapsed and threatened its neighbors. Since then the building has seen significant rehabilitation by Springville Center for the Arts that included funding from NYS EPF, Homes and Renewal, Main Street and other grants as well as donated materials and work, community support and an M & T bank loan (repaid). The building was deemed a priority project by the Western NY REDC (Regional Economic Development Council), a gateway organization for access to all NYS grants. This EPIP loan will help fund the Arts Café project to transform this building, built in 1880, into a performance space, arts workshop, two apartments and a public green roof anchored by a bakery-café on the first floor.
